6 Kid Friendly Spring Activities to Do at Home

Spending time indoors this spring? Before your kids drive you — and themselves — crazy, introduce these kid friendly spring activities that you can do at home.

ACTIVITY ONE

Bird Watching

As the weather warms, more birds will come out from their nests in search of food and mates. Spring is the perfect time to start bird watching. Luckily, you don’t need to spend much money to start this hobby with your kids. Get started with:

  • A book that helps you identify birds in your area.
  • A decent pair of binoculars that will give you a clearer view of birds.
  • A birdhouse, bird feeder, and other items that will attract diverse species to your yard.

If your kids love watching birds, you can make plans to visit nearby parks and wildlife refuges in the summer.

ACTIVITY TWO

Start A Garden

Depending on where you live, the spring season can have rather cold days and nights. Even in colder climates, you can grow a few plants like lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, and peas. Besides, starting a garden early in the season makes it easier for you to continue growing vegetables during the summer.

Teaching your children how to raise food will benefit them throughout life. With home gardens, you benefit from fresh produce that hasn’t been treated with dangerous chemicals. Gardening can also improve mental health, encourage people to get exercise, and boost their immune systems from getting their hands in the dirt.

ACTIVITY THREE

Learn To Make Balloon Animals

Learning to make balloon animals is a fun, inexpensive way to pass the time. You only need:

  • Long balloons that you can twist into shapes.
  • A balloon pump that will save your lungs a lot of work.
  • Basic instructions to get you started.

Get your kids to make easy balloon animals. Also, let them experiment and have their imaginations run wild.

Whether you enjoy this activity for one night or your kids pick up the hobby for years, your family will have fun. Monitor your young children, though. There’s a mild risk that they could swallow uninflated balloons.

ACTIVITY FOUR

Build Projects From STEM Kits

Kids are never too young to start learning STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) fundamentals.

At first, it might sound ridiculous to have your young children try STEM projects. Carefully curated kits make it easy to give your children age-appropriate projects. KiwiCo stands out as one of your best options. The company lets you choose:

  • Panda Crates for children aged 0 to 24 months.
  • Koala Crates for children aged 2 to 4 years old.
  • Kiwi Crates for kids aged 5 to 8.
  • Atlas Crates for kids ages 6 to 11.

KiwiCo even has Marker Crates for people ages 14 to 104. The company will send you one project per month to keep your kids interested. You might even learn a few things, too.

ACTIVITY FIVE

Family Movie Night With Snacks

Research shows that you shouldn’t let your kids use screens too often. That doesn’t mean you should abandon family movie night. Making it a special occasion could even decrease the amount of time your kids spend staring at the TV during the day.

For a great family movie night:

  • Choose an appropriate film that everyone will enjoy. You can get a DVD or stream online.
  • Get some of your family’s favorite snacks together.
  • Gather some pillows and blankets so you can cuddle up on the sofa.
  • Set a specific night and time for movie night. Make it a weekly tradition!

ACTIVITY SIX

Make a Poster Featuring Their Favorite Characters

If your kids don’t already have favorite characters from books, video games, and TV shows, movie night will change that. Why resist? Embrace their new interest by turning it into a new hobby.

Mapiful makes it easy for your family to create unique posters that feature their favorite characters. You just need to upload some art, choose a little text, and set a theme. Mapiful will do the work and send you a professionally printed poster that you can hang in your home.

For a fancier look, add a frame that will protect your poster and match your home’s aesthetic.

Kid-friendly Spring Activities – Conclusion

Parents can struggle to entertain their kids. They don’t exactly have the longest attention spans, after all. Start with these six kid-friendly spring activities to do at home. If they don’t respond to them, you can always look for other options. More often than not, at least one of these activities will captivate your kids. Whether it lasts for an hour or a few weeks, you can’t know until you try.
